After serving tourists and nostalgic fans for about two decades, Cheers at Boston’s Faneuil Hall Marketplace is closing its doors at the end of the month. CEO Markus Ripperger cited financial difficulties related to the COVID-19 pandemic as the reason for the closure. He said the landlord was inflexible during the pandemic and that the restaurant cannot meet its rent obligations while currently operating at about 20% capacity. The location at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a recreation of the setting from the TV show, which was inspired by the Bull & Finch Pub on Beacon Street. Ripperger emphasized that the Beacon Street location will remain open.
